Introducing Our Data Source Integration Strategy Guide
Drumroll please…Releasing the first resource in our HR1 implementation series
Last week, we announced an upcoming series of free, practical resources to help states, counties, and cities navigate the Medicaid work requirements and other changes created by HR1/OBBBA. Today, we’re publishing the first one.
Starting January 1, 2027, states will need to verify - every six months - whether roughly 20 million Medicaid Expansion adults are working, exempt, or otherwise compliant with the new community engagement requirements. Automating as much of that verification as possible through back-end data sharing is one of the highest-leverage things a state can do right now: fewer eligible people fall off coverage for procedural reasons, and the load on clients and caseworkers gets lighter. But with short timelines and limited funding, no state can connect every potentially useful dataset, which means the most helpful questions to answer are “What are the must-dos?” and “What can I deprioritize?”
Our Data Source Integration Strategy Guide answers both, sorting candidate datasets into must-dos, higher-investment priorities, nice-to-haves, and deprioritize, and laying out the framework behind those calls - population coverage, implementation complexity, and cost - so state Medicaid teams can double-check the recommendations against their own context.
Without further ado, here’s the guide!

We’ll share the next resource in the series next week. As always, if you’d like to discuss any of this in more detail, please reach out to Zack at zack@group17a.com.
